Summer in Varanger
After I visited the Varanger Peninsula in March and April 2025, I knew I had to come back the next year. I had my reasons to do that in June. Not only is June prime time for Arctic breeders, but it also provides the chance to work with the midnight sun. The place is magical.
My aim? Working on atmosphere and storytelling in my photography. The result is the gallery you find below. It features the most diverse set of photographs I’ve ever put together, from tiny in-frame loons to seabird macro work, and lots of shorebirds I rarely get to see in their breeding plumage back home. Varanger delivered.
Did I get everything I wanted? No. Some of the frames here don’t look like those I would generally shoot, and I find the set lacking in cohesion as a result. But that was kind of the point. This gallery represents me stepping into expanding my photography skills. And for that, I’m thankful.
I’ll be back soon, Norway, I’m sure.
